Hello! 👋

I’m Gagan Jhajj, a researcher exploring the frontiers of Natural Language Processing, Reinforcement Learning, and Neuromorphic Computing. Currently researching at Mila - Quebec AI Institute.

I’m an MS Computer Science student at Athabasca University supervised by Dr. Fuhua Lin with a focus on AI and Intelligent Systems. My research journey spans prestigious institutions worldwide, where I tackle complex problems at the intersection of AI, neuroscience, and language technologies.

Current Research

Currently, I’m a Research Intern at Mila - Quebec AI Institute under Dr. David Ifeoluwa Adelani, working on low-resource machine translation, developing innovative NLP approaches to bridge language gaps for underrepresented languages.

I was previously a Research Intern at RIKEN Center for Brain Science in Tokyo under Dr. Henrik Skibbe and Dr. Méghane Decroocq, exploring how diffusion models can improve synthetic neuron image generation.

Before that, I worked at Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology under Dr. Kenji Doya and Dr. Carlos Enrique Gutierrez, developing tools for Spiking Neural Networks and leveraging LLMs and NLP methods to parse neural parameters from academic literature.

Research Focus

My work centers on Natural Language Processing with applications spanning:

  • Low-resource machine translation and multilingual NLP
  • Knowledge graph construction using LLMs and NLP algorithms
  • Educational AI tools and language technologies
  • Neuromorphic computing and brain-inspired AI systems for more efficient AI

With publications at EMNLP, RLC, and IEEE SWC, I’m passionate about creating NLP systems that democratize language technologies and advance scientific understanding.
